The banked track game Sunday 18th 2009 will be a nearly completely new experience for Cincinnati. The Black Sheep bravely agreed to play the Wildfires on the banked track despite having only two skaters that have ever been on a banked track before. The SD Wildfires basically share a roster with the Swarm, SDDD’s banked track team that is currently undefeated in the LA Derby Dolls' 2009 season, so they're much more experienced on the slope. Since the game Sunday is informal, the rosters are likely to be mixed up a bit for both leagues, allowing typically B team, or less experienced, skaters to get in the game.

As a coach of some So Cal Girls and of my SDDD, I was impressed by both teams this weekend. The Wildfires had to tweak their line-up for the flat-track bout a bit and still made an impressive showing, especially in the second half when they made some strategic adjustments.
Cincinnati (who are a classy bunch of ladies, btw) knows how to control a pack and the jammers are intelligent and incredible skaters (
I could watch Sadie skate all day... sigh... I'm sorry, what was I talking about? Oh yeah!), their strategies were strong and the scoreboard shows that. As is to be expected, the Swarm was dominant in the banked track bout on Sunday winning by over a hundy which further strengthens their claim to the title of best banked track and best hybrid team in the country, a claim few rational thinking people would refute =) The excitement around these parts regarding the new banked track and the possibilities of banked track bouts at home next year against several new teams who wanna get a taste of the banked track is palpable!!! This can only help other teams get the impetus needed to build their own tracks, to create their own BT leagues and to expand the scope of banked track derby in this country. I am excited as hell, not just as an official SDDD Super Fan but as a derby coach/trainer and loving the banked in general =)
