Roller babes: the book - If you read it what do you think?

I read the book "Roller babes" Written by Tim Patten. I found it quite the time warp, with 50's cool lingo. - I wasn't born then- lol. I found it to be a little depressing, but in ways uplifting, some of the highlights I will mention are the Direct quotes used by a couple of the skaters. Clear references to some of the most well known skaters, and the fact that the derby was basically available to anyone that wanted to skate for it. What I also found even more poignant, want the conclusion, in which Tim tells the world why he had to stop skating. That is probably another book within itself. if you have any comments about the book without spoiling the ending too much. lets discuss. I would also add an overall grade for the book- I will say B+. I am upgrading it from a b- because after rereading the book , Tim did cram a whole lot of info into the book. I hated it to end and was hoping for more player comparisons. I hope that he does a sequel, having Lottie address her married life and ease into the 60's - a very turbulent time, that way the African American skater Ruby can get treated with more respect.

I read the book in less than two days... I could not put it down. I found what was told in that book still exists a bit in Roller Derby today. It has also put a bit more light on the sport which I know call my own. If you havent read it, I suggest you pick up a copy and give it a whirl... You will enjoy it. Cheers!

I'm enjoying the book now... It does hit on a lot of taboos which gives it a genuine quality. I could do without some of the lingo but probably hip to the folks that once used it. I like it and would recommend it to every skater and fan!!!
