Toe stops are primarily used for getting off to a running start off the line and for standing up, not for stopping. The funny thing is that per John Hall the reason classic Roller Derby skaters didn't use toe stops was because USARSA (USARS and RSA…

Some of these are from their regular season interleague bouts. A few are from 2009 Eastern Regionals (which they hosted). Carolina's in black/red with the logo you see at the beginning of the video on their tops. Yellow and black shirts with MD flag…

This video ROCKS!!! I have yet to learn a couple more styles of drills with my friend "Stan", like I saw in your piece here. So far at least, I'm still stuck learning defense and track awareness skills with him, but the "crash drills" I must do on m…

There's always one or two skaters in these shots whose sweat socks don't quite match up 100%. This is the most common type of socks back then (along with later-day T-Birds green/yellow, actually). Note that Vicki Cooper and Joan Weston's socks are a…

About Me:
I just work here. I keep statistics for the local league, which becomes necessary when you're skating unscripted derby and want to determine the skaters' strong and weak points and observe their improvements. I also help out a bit with marketing the league to locals.

I want RollerSports action to come to my town so that I can see it live.

I am a skater, and would like to know how I can try out for a team.

The thing I remember most about RollerGames/RollerDerby is:
Needed less splash, more substance. I prefer a real athletic competition with the outward trappings of a spectacle. As opposed to a spectacle with the outward trappings of a real athletic competition. Your mileage may vary.
My Favorite Music:
As many here do not like pseudonyms, I enjoy the works of James Newell Osterberg Jr., Lewis Allen Reed, Jeffry Ross Hyman, Douglas Colvin, John Cummings, Thomas Erdelyi and David Jones.

You might know them better as Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, The Ramones and David Bowie. Fake names are inherently evil, though, so I typed in their real ones.
My Favorite TV Shows:
The Sopranos, Rome, Deadwood, The Colbert Report, Daily Show (John Stewart), and the news. Our local city council meetings tend to be surprisingly entertaining, as our Mayor has a quick wit.
Something nobody knows about me:

Why the West might be the best...

The best regional tournament, anyways.

The West is the oddest region WFTDA has, but many of its peculiarities make its Derby on the Rocks tournament the best of the bunch, barring Nationals.

Here's why. Other regions have one of two behemoths with a solid grasp or (in the East) a solid grasp on one of the top two spots.… Continue

"The MTV Generation"

Whenever I read "the MTV Generation," it paints a picture for me. Not of a generation of kids interested in... *insert stereotypes here* but rather of an over-the-hill fogy ineptly trying to describe "them kids with the weird hair and baggy pants that I don't spend a lot of time trying to understand."

What exactly do you MEAN by the MTV Generation? Do you mean the generation that actually watched it for music videos back in the eighties? They're in their forties now. Do you mean the generation… Continue

I took a look at the shop name you gave me and might look into it, though I will be doing the drills with them I will not be able to play since it wouldn't be fair and could be bad if a guy took someone out . So they're going to teach me how to be a ref and that can open doors for me as well as learning the sport for when a mens league forms.

I think I would crawl to see live action. We watched everything on tv and drove our neighbors crazy. Thanks for giving me information. The computer is a wonderful thing to have. I would be so alone without it. Thanks
